Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that either you love or hate but really I’m not too sure on how I feel about the holiday in general but I’m pretty sure I lean more towards the negative side, expect the fact that I love to get festive.
Valentine’s Day is a holiday where everywhere feels that they are obligated to buy something expensive for their significant other, purpose to them or some other cheesy thing like a big freakin’ teddy bear that will just sit in your room and collect dust. I won’t lie, I could go for another giant Hippo stuff animal and my reasoning is that when I finally have a kid they will have a Safari themed room. Why? Because I love Hippos!
But back to the dumb gifts of Valentine’s Day. What happened to just doing this because you WANTED to? I feel like this would mean so much more. Imagine. You come home from a long day at work and your significant other came home with bouquet of flowers, or a piece of jewelry because they were thinking of you. Heck, I’m happy days my boyfriend comes home randomly with a Pizza because it means we don’t have to cook or clean up.
Lastly, booking hotels on Valentine’s Day. My brother has been talking to me about this because he was looking to book a hotel for him and his girlfriend and the CHEAPEST rate for Valentine’s Day weekend was $400.00 a night! Really? If you’re willing to afford that for one night, I want to know what you do for a living!
Overall, Valentine’s Day is overrated! Save that money from everything you would have spent it on and put it towards a trip to Mexico and celebrate your love for your partner every day! My boyfriend and I this year are going to stay in and create our own beer tasting night! We each have to go to the store and pick a few new beers to try! And…nachos will probably be included in this meal as well! YUM!

I love celebrating Valentine’s – it’s a good excuse to treat your loved one AND get spoiled yourself…but we’re the same…we’re not going to pay up for something JUST because it falls on Valentine’s Day – I’d rather go out for a yummy dinner on any other night than to deal with the crowds and over-priced fixed menus on Feb 14 itself 🙂
