3 Step Post Workout Skin Care Routine

Post Workout Skin Care Routine

This year, I started to take more time to focus on eating better and maintaining a healthier lifestyle. As some of you know, blogging is not my full-time gig. I also work 9-5 in an office, which results in sitting at a desk more than I’d like. As part of my new routine, I’ve been taking the time to meal prep, especially with lunches, which helps me to stay on track. I’m also less likely to visit a fast-food joint during my breaks when I’ve brought a lunch to work.

As for working out, I’ve been trying to get my workout done in the morning as they say you’re less likely to skip if you do. If not, I do my best to squeeze in a quick 20-30 minute workout session as soon as I get home. It’s not always easy but you always feel so much better once you’re done! My favourite routine is doing some simple HIIT workouts using a workout timer app.

We all know putting the right foods in your body can aid with healthier skin but it’s also important to have a post-workout skin care routine. Sweating during a work out is great as you feel like you’re working hard. However, as your sweat from exercising dries, it becomes a food source for bacteria that can cause acne. This can sound scary, but as long as you have a quality post-workout skin care routine you have nothing to worry about! With that said, I am going to share with you my simple post-workout skin care routine!

Simple 3 Step Post Workout Skin Care Routine

With our skin being our largest organ, it’s important that we work hard to protect it as it works just as hard to protect us. Our skin is our first protection from things such as bacteria, viruses, and pollution and chemical substances that we encounter every day.

Today I’m going to share with you my 3-step post-workout skin care routine that can help you achieve that healthy glow we all want. In addition, to these steps, there are a few other things we can do to keep our skin healthy. These include:

  • Maintaining a healthy diet
  • Limit the amount of alcohol you consume
  • Keep moisture in the skin (more about that later in the blog!)
  • Get your beauty rest

Now on to my daily post-workout skin care routine!

  1. Wash Your Skin

Within 5-10 minutes after your workout, make sure you wash or at least rinse your face. This will help to remove any sweat and prevent any unwanted skin irritations. If you’re at the gym pack a face cloth with you to quickly rinse your face or splash water on your face and pat dry with a towel.

If you workout at home, head to the bathroom as soon as your workout is done and use a fragrance -free cleanser to remove any sweat from your face.

  1. Use a Toner

Toners will help to add that extra layer of protection to close and tighten your pores after a workout. This can seem like an unnecessary step, but it only takes a few seconds and is well worth it.

Look for a toner that contains exfoliating ingredients like amino fruit acids or glycolic acid. I also prefer ones that are made with thermal spring water, as they tend to be good for people with sensitive skin. I believe that after a good workout sesh, our skin tends to be a little more sensitive.

  1. Moisturize

Moisturize your skin! When looking for a moisturizer for your post-workout skin care routine it’s important to look for a product that is paraben-free, fragrance-free and is suitable for sensitive skin. These factors are important; after a sweating yoga or HIIT class your skin is most likely red and warm. Applying a product that won’t irritate your skin more will help to prevent any additional redness or breakouts.

Lately, I’ve been using L’Oréal’s Revitalift Cicacream as it meets all the criteria that I’ve listed. It’s also been leaving my skin feeling smoother and softer. Making sure your moisturizer is fragrance-free is important as it won’t irritate your skin while applying it in a locker room after your amazing hot yoga session!  Revitalift Cicacream helps to repair your skin’s moisture barrier while also helping to prevent premature aging as it is infused with Centella Asiatica (aka Tiger Grass), a plant from ancient Chinese Medicine. It’s also the 1st anti-aging cream recognized by the Canadian Dermatology Association*.
