Over the weekend, I threw my mom a surprise birthday party for her 60th. I remember for a while now she kept hinting, that she wanted a surprise party for her 60th. The main question you may ask..was she surprised? I believe she was and she had no idea the party was happening until moments before which in my mind makes it a success. I had all her closest friends and family over at a location close to home and we drank, chatted and ate some delicious food.
For the event, I had to create a candy bar. Being a blogger, almost every event I go to has a candy bar and you never hear one compliant. On the menu…personalized M&Ms with my moms face on them, teeth candy (she’s a hygienist), jelly bellys and few other jelly goodness options.
Drinks were all about the Sangria with Jacob’s Creek Moscato. I refilled that jug, so many times because people were filling up their glasses every chance they had. If you visit Jacob’s Creeks Twitter page you can see many different Sangria recipes in their photos. I opted for the Hint of Mint Sangria. It was very simple to make (especially since it doesn’t require any other liquor items besides the wine) and tasted delicious!
In addition to the food and wine, I created a photo wall using ribbon and small clothes pins and hung a bunch of photos from my mom’s past that included her best friends and my brother and I. This was a hit and is a great conversation piece at any party.
Happy Bday to your mom!! The Sangria sounds amazing! I’ve never thrown or had a surprise party, but I’m a super emotional girl and I’d probably be a blubbering idiot lol
Happy birthday to your mom! I love the decor and the photo wall! Also, candy bars are so popular right now and always a hit! Thanks for the great ideas and it looks like you did a fantastic job.
The personalized M&Ms are really cool!
