Since moving into my house 3 years ago I’ve dreamed about painting it, but just never got around to it. When we moved into the house, the kitchen was yellow, the living room was purple, and the rest of the hallways beige-yellow. We did paint the main area a blue about a year ago but it just wasn’t the right fit – this is why testing the colour is VERY important. The hallways were also still that ugly beige-yellow. The goal was to find one perfect colour to paint the entire house and really open up the room. We also have this rock wall that we wanted to stand out more.

So, you can now see why a paint job was necessary.

Picking the Right Colour

This is the hardest part of painting! Finding the right colour and making sure it’s the best option is not only the hardest part of a room makeover, but the most important. When we decided to paint the house (minus the bedrooms), we had to make sure that we were picking the right colour as there was no turning back!

To pick our colour we headed into Canadian Tire and took a look at their HUGE selection of Premier paint colours. We narrowed it down to two colours, Rock White and Mint White and purchased two small cans of each colour. I HIGHLY suggest buying these $8 cans of paint, as they can really help you get a better idea of the colour. We tested each colour on the wall and over the next few days decided on the final verdict. Another tip is to test the colours on different parts of the room as the lighting can play a big part in the colour.

Using Canadian Tire Premier Paint

To be completely honest I never thought of going to Canadian Tire for paint. However, when I learned more about their Premier line of paint, the wide selection of colours, and the variety of lines that can fit any budget, I was amazed. For example, for many students out there your dorm or your room is an expression of yourself, and it’s important that the design and colour truly speak to you.

Now because you may only be in that room for 8 months or a year, you may think you don’t have the budget to change up that paint colour, well…. I’m happy to say that’s not the case at Canadian Tire. They offer their affordable Premier or Premier Active lines, or for those long lasting, or more well-used room projects, they offer the Premier Infinity line. Honestly, I know I’m repeating myself here but there is truly something for every budget.

The Final Results

I’m shocked with the overall final look of the room – thanks to the coverage of Canadian Tire’s Premier Paint it only took two coats of paint, and it completely covered the dark colours we had. It provided nice even coverage and the colour was vibrant and really brought the room to life. Even when I accidentally scraped the wall while putting the furniture back, the scruff marks washed away with a simple wipe. Making this paint perfect for a messy person like me, or for all the parents out there with a wee little one running around, who we all know truly test the durability of any room.

In the end, we went with Rock White (seems fitting as we have that rock wall in the room), and it has really opened up the space. We decided on this lighter colour as most of our furniture in the house is dark and it did not disappoint!

Special thanks to Canadian Tire for sponsoring this post and giving us the opportunity to change our home into something that we’ve always imagined! The house is still a work in progress as we adjust decor items and tweak things here and there but having the new paint colour is the perfect way
